Indian creations

A little bit (emphasis ,as usual, on the 'little' bit) of school this morning, in the form of maths.

Then I suggested trying out a game we read about that young indian boys played to practice spearing wild animals.
You roll a hoop along the ground and as it rolls along the ground you try to throw a spear through it...
great says Kurt, but I'll need a good spear... I think it'll be alright if you just use a stick' I say.......' No Mama , indians use proper spears'..... and so out into the shed he went with his trusty sidekick (Anton) who claims he is essential 'help' with all things that  deemed outdoor 'work' especially if it involves tools.......

First he needed a trusty stick which he sharpened with his pocket knife (no cuts today), then off to our chicken coop to gather more supplies.......

Then Papa's drill........

then some final fine tuning...

Meanwhile, inspired by his brothers creation, Anton set to work with the axe, making his own 'spear' ...

.. working away to get a sharp point... that was tested at regular intervals until it was deemed sharp enough to kill a buffalo.....

While the boys made 'essential' weapons, the Becca played 'house' in the wood shed.....

and Arwen.....  she observed her siblings and.... well.... she ate some wood.... and drank water from the watering can....

As Anton finished his spear head, Kurt declared his creation complete, and there it was, a beautiful work of art, that also appeared highly functional....

And now to put it to use......

for some reason it was necessary that it be launched from the top of the wood shed... (I'm still not too sure why)

and the virgin launch was a success...... met with great celebration by all.....

..the second ,however, was not, the spear showed it's weaknesses.... some cries of dismay from all and some tears from it's creator... which increased in flow when it was anounced by 'Great mother big Bear' that there was no time to create another(due to rugby practice).
After picking up the pieces (and recovering ,most of, the feathers from the dogs mouth) , it was a determined young man that declared ,that tomorrow, his next would be stronger and fly further....

  2. I'm leaving this post open so I can show the boys, they'll absolutely love this, they're right into woodwork - and weapons - at the moment!
