Down at the pond

Anton is really into dinosaurs in a big way at the moment. He has too books he just pours over, and Kurt has been reading the words to him, so he know has a wealth of information that he soaks up like a sponge.
After reading the books, again, to Anton yesterday, Kurt had an idea to go down the back to search for fossils, so they gathered all their gear, spades, picks, notebooks, pens ,magnifying glasses, binoculars (not sure about why these were needed !) and all other 'necessary' equipment was packed into their nature bags and off they went....

Through the vineyard and over a gate to the 'pond down the back'....

with all they needed for the afternoon...

We went down to see how they were getting on a little later...
It seems that they excavation work had failed to reveal anything of any note so they had moved on to a bit of fishing...
Kurt had constructed a fabulous fishing rod out of stick and flax...

and Anton was enjoying the trial run...

He pleaded for Kurt  to make him one too, and so they sat with the beloved pocket knife and Kurt constructed a second....

meanwhile... the girls ,only mildly interested in the fossil hunting and fishing plans, endulged in a spot of bugs searching....

tree climbing.....

tree relaxing.....

and some swinging.....

we eventually walked home, but the boys stayed... they were pretty focused with their projects..
Late late afternoon they returned tired and hungary, but happy......
