We just had the most fantastic weekend.... we headed off into the sounds on Friday, and going into the sounds is always exciting and we always have a great time, but this time it was especially exciting.
Rob's parents had given us a very generous and very special christmas present this year.... a trip for all of us to Maud Island, a sanctuary island at the top of the sounds, including a scenic boat trip !!!
We have been excited about this for a few weeks now, and enjoyed doing a bit of research about what we would find when we got there.
Early Saturday morning we set off to catch the boat.... it was a long trip out to the island and we loved every bit of it.
We were treated to a great tour around the Kenepuru and Pelorus sounds, stopping to look at a big ship wreak, historic homesteads, a shag colony , seals, and the most amazing Gannet colony (which was such an experience to get so close to them).....
And the kids had a great time on the boat with their cousins.
Beautiful day, incredible scenery, happy people....... just the best....
